The Acapulco Blue paint on this GT500 is one of the most popular colors offered, and for good reason: it's ideal on the swoopy Shelby bodywork. Yeah, I'll say it: I think the 1969-70 GT500 is the best-looking Shelby ever built, and with fantastic color combination, this 1970 Shelby GT500 is an absolute knock-out AM/FM✔ Air Conditioning

Based on a shell valley classics kit, which is one of the better cobra reproductions available, it packs a strong-running small block, a picture-perfect paint job, and that undeniable appeal of the most potent roadster ever built. Built by a professional shop in dallas, this stunning cobra looks fresh off the showroom floor. The finish quality of the fiberglass is superior to most kits, and thanks to the exceptionally strong methods of construction shell valley uses, including kevlar reinforcements, it's as solid as a rock. There are zero signs that this snake has been driven, with the paint showing extremely well; even the rocker panels and areas behind the rear wheels are devoid of road rash. Other details include front and rear jacking stubs, a real lemans-style fuel filler, and a roll hoop behind the driver. Inside it's standard cobra fare, with basic black leather buckets, simple black carpet and minimalist door panels. The whole point is simplicity and distilling the driving experience down to its barest essence, and at that the cobra excels. Simple vdo gauges keep an eye on the engine and look suitably old school, and there's a hurst shifter and cue ball knob in the center of the compartment. The 351 cubic inch ford windsor v8 is plenty stout, with a wide torque curve and a willingness to rev. But it's also easy around town and very user-friendly thanks to an electronic ignition that lights it up almost instantly. Ceramic-coated headers lead to a set of side pipes that look and sound right and cobra finned valve covers and a matching air cleaner give it a period performance look that's totally appropriate here. The transmission is a 5-speed manual and the overdrive fifth gear is a welcome addition, making this a car that can genuinely be driven anywhere, anytime. The suspension is a modified a-arm arrangement with coil-overs up front and a 9-inch hanging on trailing arms out back. A heavy-duty frame, 4-wheel disc brakes, and a minimum of frills make this a potent car on or off the track. Gorgeous 17-inch halibrand-style wheels look pretty authentic but offer a huge performance upgrade in the form of 235/45/17 front and 315/35/17 rear goodyear radials. Air Conditioning

1966 shelby cobra - fort worth, txstreetside classicsfort worth, tx 76137ph: 8558772707web: www. Yes, we noticed the eyeball-searing green paint and the nasty satin black details. Yes, everybody will dig the cackling engine note. Heck, on this car, they'll be so agog at the wicked paint that they won't care if it's real or not! It was built in 2011, and while it's been driven, this was obviously a car built to attract eyeballs, so that's still what it does best. The bright paint glows like it's radioactive and the satin black stripes are a combination of paint and decals which emulate the original cobra look, right down to the gumballs on the side. Fit and finish are rather good and yes, the teeth in the grille opening are also easily removed. Upholstered door panels with map pockets, a usable center console with arm rest, and full carpets mean this nasty snake is comfortable enough to use as a real car, not just some kind of toy. Auto meter supplied all the gauges and most of the switch gear is comprised of those cool flip-up aviation-style toggle switches that always seem to imply something critical is about to happen. The trunk is neatly finished and someone with a sense of humor has added some green led lighting, suggesting that something sinister is going on back there. Don't worry, this cobra has the horsepower to back up its outrageous look. It takes the form of a built 351 windsor v8 dressed in shelby cobra valve covers and an oval air cleaner atop the big holley 4-barrel carburetor. It's not exotic, but boy does it get the job done! Big power is available anywhere on the tach and the hit of torque this nasty small block delivers will quickly become addictive. I promise nobody will know it's not a big block by the way it sounds. The tremec 5-speed slices through the gears like a razor and there's a bulletproof ford 9-inch rear hanging out back. Bucket Seats✔ Leather Seats

It's also nicely finished and ready to enjoy, all at a bargain price, making for a real win-win equation. The bodywork takes a few liberties with the original cobra's specs, all in the name of comfort. With a few more inches in the wheelbase than a stocker, it's far easier to get comfortable inside. The handsome indigo blue paint and wimbledon white stripes lend it a very period-appropriate look that makes this icon even more, well, iconic. It's got some time and mileage on the build, but it's holding up rather well thanks to good quality 'glass work and proper prep. We like the chrome nerf bars fore and aft, which really do offer some protection, as well as the lucas-style taillights and flip-up gas cap that add authenticity. Oh, and the chrome side pipes don't hurt, either. It's traditional inside, too. Low-back buckets covered in black look authentic and have a bit of wear that actually enhances the authentic look rather than detracting. Door panels are simple and there are black carpets on the floor which help control noise and heat. All the switchgear is easy to find and use and there's a big chrome knob on the b&m shifter (yes, that's right, this snake has an automatic gearbox). The trunk is surprisingly spacious and includes and a rear-mounted battery for improved weight distribution. Horsepower is a non-issue thanks to a built 428 cubic inch v8. Fortified with dual quads and situated in the lightweight cobra, performance is impressive and the sound is even better. The valve covers, air cleaner, and expansion tank for the cooling system all recall the original and a set of red plug wires add a bit of contrast. Long-tube headers manage the exhaust and it's got an awesome idle thanks to a lumpy cam inside. A full a-arm front suspension and rack-and-pinion steering make it corner like it's on rails, while a trick independent rear end looks very much like the jaguar irs that was so popular years ago.

Streetside classics | ebay template p{ margin: 0px; } . Videos{ width: 790px; margin-top: 10px; margin-bottom: 10px; } . Videos object { height: 445px ! This is cobra done right. The goal was to have a real gunmetal gray cobra and the guys spraying the paint on this one nailed it on the first try. It's not traditional, but then again, it's not supposed to be. Instead, it's sinister, purposeful, and yes, tasteful, a cobra for any event. The look is unmistakable and they spent a ton of time on the fiberglass tub to get it to shine that well. The hood scoop is riveted in place, so it has an authentic look, and all the familiar cobra styling cues are intact, from the bumperettes to the side pipes to the roll hoop behind the driver's head. The silver stripes are painted on, not decals, and they wrap neatly into the hood and trunk jambs, a sure sign of professionals at work. The look is just drop-dead gorgeous. First, those seats: check out the deeper padding and improved bolstering over the originals, as well as a matching center armrest. The forward-canted shifter looks right, too, but it's now connected to a 5-speed manual gearbox, making this a car that really can be driven anywhere in comfort. Those vintage-looking gauges do a pretty good impersonation of vintage smiths dials, including the reverse-rotation speedometer, but they're reliable modern pieces from auto meter, who obviously understands how passionate cobra builders can be. No heater, no ratio, nothing that will slow the car down, and that's just as it should be, but nobody will feel short-changed by the accommodations. It looks right with a small air cleaner atop a giant demon double-pumper, and with the expansion tank up high, its shelby dna is clearly visible. It starts easily and idles well, with none of the reported fussiness of an original, and they shaved a ton of weight using edelbrock aluminum heads on top. There's an electric fan up front to keep it cool and custom long-tube headers dump into the famous side pipes that sound spectacular. A tremec 5-speed manual transmission is a big improvement over the original toploader 4-speed, and with an overdrive, the acceleration-happy gears in the 9-inch rear are not a problem. The rectangular tube frame chassis features tubular a-arms up front, rack-and-pinion steering, and super strong wilwood 4-wheel disc brakes, so don't be afraid to use it as intended. Twin black roll hoops, shiny jacking stubs fore and aft, and matching black side pipes all make this Cobra stand out, adding to the race-ready appearance. Panel fit is quite good, particularly the hood and trunk, and with that satin black paint, there's no place for bad workmanship to hide. Fortunately, Factory 5's workmanship is consistently excellent, and the composite body was prepped and smoothed to the standards that black demands

Streetside classics | ebay template p{ margin: 0px; } . Videos{ width: 790px; margin-top: 10px; margin-bottom: 10px; } . Videos object { height: 445px ! With a stout fuel-injected mustang 5. 0 under the hood and a cobra-grade suspension, this is a very formidable roadster that's also reliable enough to drive every day. There are plenty of cobra replicas out there that have traditional colors, but nobody's going to believe they're original anyway. The guys who built this car went the extra mile to make sure there were no disappointments, so this roadster stands up to the scrutiny it's sure to get. With gorgeous sunset orange paint and those faint ghost stripes, there's no disguising the cobra shape, but this one takes on an altogether more menacing and modern persona than many of its siblings. Factory five's fiberglass is better than most, so the car fits together quite well and with just a bit of prep, ends up looking like a million bucks. All the original cobra design cues are there, from the mini bumperettes to the side pipes to twin roll bars for driver and passenger, proving once again that no car has survived the passage of history better than the cobra. I'm guessing the intent was to build a car that is as happy on the track as on the street, and the vintage-style low-back bucket seats seem to bear this out. A simple upholstered dashboard houses modern auto meter gauges that look a lot like the original smiths dials used in the 1960s. A modern am/fm/cd stereo system was neatly installed in the dash, and the trunk is fully finished to match. Thanks to the wonders of electronic fuel injection, it starts instantly and runs like a scalded cat regardless of ambient conditions. Backed by a 5-speed gearbox and 8. 8-inch rear, it has a gear for every occasion, from pulling a hole-shot to cruising on the highway. The tubular frame is very nicely finished, and with rack-and-pinion steering, 4-wheel disc brakes, and a set of coil-over shocks, handling is far sharper than anything with a big block could be. Charcoal-colored wheels look a lot like ford motorsport performance hoops and carry staggered performance radials for a pure cobra look.
