There are enough stock camaros out there that it's often refreshing to see one that's tastefully customized to make it stand out. That means clean bodywork with a cowl-induction hood, a ducktail spoiler out back, and those awesome stripes that highlight all the car's most dramatic curves. The work was quite nicely done a few years ago and is holding up well, with a nice, soft shine to the finish and even gaps all around. Many camaro fans like the purity of the early cars, and the '68 might be the prettiest of all with the removal of the vent windows and the addition of side-marker lights to break up the paint a little bit. That cool stripe work was actually done freehand by "gator stripes," a pro pinstriper who specializes in show cars that get noticed. The chrome bumpers are in very good shape and the stainless trim is probably original, so it might show a few signs of age, but it's not a big deal. Even the dash pad and steering column were wrapped in the same soft tan upholstery! A center console is always a welcome option, and it has been painted to match the bodywork, as have the dash panels and steering wheel, adding a little contrast that seems just right. The factory gauges are gone, replaced by a set of dakota digital instruments that fit in the original round pods for a very trick look. The trunk is outfitted with those same plush tan carpets and a cool cover for the battery that's tucked into the corner. The stout 350 cubic inch small block is dressed to play with a color-matched air cleaner, accessory drive, and block, adding to the custom feel. There's a bit of chrome and polished aluminum for contrast and the performance hardware is legit. There's a big edelbrock carburetor up top, a polished aluminum intake manifold, and a reasonably healthy cam inside that makes it feel punchy. The th350 3-speed automatic transmission snaps through the gears without hesitation and powers the stock 10-bolt rear end. Long-tube headers and flowmaster mufflers make for a most awesome soundtrack following this neat little coupe, and traditional weld pro-star wheels and 215/60/15 blackwall radials look good and handle nicely. A chin spoiler and traditional ducktail out back add to the SS's attitude, and proper badging remains throughout, including the vaunted '396' emblems on the front fenders. The Rally wheels are even mounted on redline tires to keep the red/black theme going. It shows its aggressive side, with a black streak, that starts with the grille, runs through the SS stinger stripe, and continues onto the black vinyl roof AM/FM

The camaro has always represented affordable performance, and this 2001 chevrolet camaro z/28 ss convertible delivers on all fronts: performance, style, and, most importantly, reasonable price. This is actually a rather rare car, mostly because it's a full-dressed ss that isn't red or black. The z/28's clean looks are smooth and chiseled, and it arguably wears the facelifted headlights and grille quite well, with their softer look offset by the massive ram air hood scoop. But the car has the look of a machine that has led an easy life and few camaro convertibles have been subjected to the daily grind, including this one. For a convertible, this one is rock solid, so the doors close with reassuring solidity and it shows off rather nice build quality with tight gaps and good attention to detail. The beige leather interior has a great look for being 16 years old and despite the open-air motoring it has experienced over its lifetime, it's in very good condition. The seats have some slight comfort marks, which only makes the leather that much more inviting and there's no denying that it was built for speed as well as comfort. There's some light fading on the floor mats, which is pretty typical on convertibles, but things like the back seat, door panels, and dash pad are excellent with almost no wear at all. Big, bold gauges were part of the z/28 package and this car comes loaded with just about every option, including power seats, windows, locks, and mirrors, plus cold a/c, cruise control, and a powerful am/fm/cd stereo system. The brand new power canvas convertible top is in excellent condition and stows under a neat boot that gives it a clean profile. Chevy's all-aluminum ls1 needs no introduction, and its installation in the camaro created one of the best performers of the early 21st century. Gm downplayed the horsepower, but testing at the time pretty much confirms that this is a corvette-spec motor. It starts easily, idles smoothly, and still yanks the clean ragtop up to speed with effortless ease. It's been well-maintained and the ls1 has proven itself to be virtually indestructible, so it's got plenty of life left in it. Someone has kept up with the detailing under the hood, so it's quite clean and the chassis is equally clean. It's still running its stock exhaust system, complete with catalytic converters, so it's emissions legal just about everywhere and the unique chrome 17-inch ss wheels and 275/40/17 goodyear tires are ready to go. Clean, fast, and nicely maintained, this camaro more than lives up to the hype. Power Seats✔ AM/FM✔ Cruise Control✔ Air Conditioning

Looking at the collector car market over the past several years, it's obvious that there are few safer places to park some cash than in a 1969 camaro of any kind. Few collector cars can deliver the same promise. The comprehensive restoration returned a solid original car to better-than-new condition in every way, with outstanding gaps and paint that would make a gm designer in 1969 weak in the knees. The restorer took no liberties, and everything is as it was when the car was delivered new, including the quarter panel trim, bright bumpers with oversized optional bumper guards, and the traditional ducktail spoiler out back. The cowl induction hood is a steel piece that remains fully functional, feeding the high-winding 302 a steady diet of cool, clean air from the base of the windshield. The stripes follow the correct pattern, narrow at the front and wider at the rear so that they appear parallel when viewed from the front. All the chrome and stainless is fresh, and it wears correct badges in all the right places. The code 723 dark green bucket seat interior is anything but basic, and the green-on-green combination is rather unusual for a z/28. Fresh seat covers, including the federally-mandated headrests, were installed when the car was restored, but with about 3800 miles since it was completed, everything is still very fresh inside. There have been no deviations from stock in this high-point f-body, so that means the original am/fm radio remains in the dash, the base steering wheel still manages the front wheels, and there are matching z/28 logo floor mats protecting the carpets. The z/28's legendary dz-code 302 cubic inch v8 was created by stuffing a 283 crank inside a 327 block, and the over-square design means the z love to rev. Some of gm's best-flowing heads were installed up top to feed the snarling small block, and an oversized carburetor makes sure it doesn't starve. Expertly detailed for show, the engine bay shows chevy orange paint on the block, proper finned aluminum valve covers, and reproduction hoses and clamps throughout. Even the original exhaust manifolds were retained and left raw, so they look just like they would have moments after rolling off the transporter. All z/28s were 4-speeds and this one has a rugged 12-bolt out back with 3. 73s inside, as well as a correct transverse exhaust system and a new gas tank. It's also documented with a reproduction window sticker and invoice, restoration photos, manuals, and other important pieces of paper. AM/FM✔ Air Conditioning

There's a reason we can't keep early Camaros in stock: they look great, drive well, and with a numbers-matching L78 396/375 like this 1968 Chevrolet Camaro RS/SS hardtop, they are quite formidable on the street. Matador Red is this car's original color (code R-R) and the recent repaint definitely delivers in a big way AM/FM
